The Nigerian and Spanish Governments have over the years enjoyed unbroken and cordial bilateral relations. Both nations continue to affirm unwavering commitments to sustained national unity and growth at various diplomatic and high-level bi-national platforms,
In pursuant to this, and on behalf of its government, Spain’s official representations in Nigeria are tenaciously working to improving these ties, through impressive and growth-inclined initiatives that help in:
- Improving security in Nigeria through training and equipping personnel in various defense departments.
- Bolstering democratic process and platforms.
- Building a profitable trade partnership for economic gains.,
- Empowering IDPs and providing humanitarian services,
- Joint partnership to fight against illegal immigration and Trafficking,
- Fostering cultural-cooperation and tourism opportunities, and,
- Deepening inter-government alliance at all levels of growths,
In this regards, and in the spirit of true friendship, national liberty and diplomatic reciprocation, Spain foreign missions in Nigeria marked its 2018 National Day in a commemorative style.
The Celebrations organized by the SPANISH EMBASSY, Abuja, under the headship of His Excellency, Ambassador Marcelino C. Ansorena and the CONSULATE-GENERAL OF SPAIN, Lagos, under the leadership of the ebullient Consul –General, H.E Juan Moreda Otero were well attended by distinguished VIPs in the diplomatic, business, governance, corporate, and other sectors.
The Abuja occasion started with a free-attendance cultural show featuring one of Spain’s respected and internationally renowned dance performing artists, the ‘Flamenco Dance Group’; followed by a press conference at the Spanish Villa Chrome Hotel, Abuja, for public awareness, importance, and interaction with the flamenco artists.
The awesome dance performance held at the Auditorium of the Nigeria Universities Commission,(NUC) Abuja, with the theme ‘RAICES AL VENTO’‘(Roots to the Wind), was led by its experienced and Nigerian friend dance-director, Compania Anabel Veloso, trilling the vast audience with the energetic, rhythmic, and inspiring flamenco style and fusion. It is also important to note that the concert is part of the framework of an existing MoU between Nigeria and Spain to promote culture among other development sectors, and it was supported by the NUC and host of other companies such as GB Foods, Grupo Terralest, Jirdin (Nig), JIREN Communications and SV Chrome in Nigeria.
The 2018 National Day Event was held on October 12, at the Spanish Residence, Abuja, with the throng of visitors treated to a great time of fun and relaxation, under the watchful and caring attention of Ambassador Ansorena and the embassy staff.
Similarly, the celebrations-train further moved to the Commercial Section of the Embassy of Spain in Lagos.
The Lagos reception held on the 25th October also marked a welcome-reception for the stop-over of the Spanish Naval Vessel the ‘Centinela’ in Lagos. The event was co-hosted by H.E (Mr.) Juan Otelo, the Spanish Consul-General in Lagos,
2018 Spain National Day celebrations in Nigeria proved memorable indeed, as Spain further demonstrated its hospitality nature and love for Nigerians and Nigeria’s sustainable growth. GRACIA-ESPANA!
On this historic occasion, Nigeria looks forward to a future of continued and close collaborations with a strong and united Spain.
