AS ITALY CELEBRATES 78YEARS OF DEMOCRACY, DEVELOPMENT AND CONTINUITY…Consul General Ugo Boni Host An Exciting Anniversary Event In Lagos

Every 2nd of June is an important and celebratory time in Italy. It is a special day of joy and rejoicing across the length and breadth of the land and beyond, and hosts activities commemorating the nation’s independence and sovereignty. On this unique day of every year, Italians around the world wakes up with the feeling of gratitude, honour and possession of a country, an important and respected one they proudly call their own, the home of their forebears and abode for their children and posterity.

For them, the day and its varied events acknowledges the sacrifices made and recognises achievements of progress; a time to commend and congratulate one another for keeping the touch of Italy on and a renewed commitment to pass the baton of continuity to the next generation.  June 2nd is thus significant in every aspect since 1946 as it births a new nation and will continue to be hailed and hallowed forever.

As a nation of importance and impact, with laudable and ongoing contributions to global good, Italy is not alone in this celebration, it is joined by several other friendly, allied and partner nations, with leaders of governments, developments stakeholders, partners and friends of Italy pouring in solidarity and goodwill messages to felicitate with one of them on the occasion of its 78years anniversary of nationhood.

As expected, the Italian government and leaders put forth applauded and participatory programmes expected of a great nation. President Sergio Mattarella laid the traditional laurel wreath at the Milite Ignoto at the Altare della Patria, in Piazza Venezia in Rome on Sunday.

Presidents of the Chamber and Senate, Ignazio La Russa and Lorenzo Fontana, and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni were also in attendance and performed various duties expected of their persons and offices on this historic day and event.

It is also worthy to note that all over the world and nations where Italy is formally represented through its diplomatic mission, development agencies and Italians visiting, working and living, the celebrations continue, and assuredly too friends of Italy are always around and happy to celebrate with them, Italy is a nation with rich capital of goodwill and this it has always drawn from over the decades.

In Nigeria, like in many other nations where Italian missions and other formal representations exists, it was also a period of gratitude and jubilation and the people in Lagos and surrounding states were delighted to be part of the much-anticipated Italian style of National Day celebrations. Profound thanks to the Italian Consulate General in Lagos for hosting a spectacular National Day event in the country.

Consul General Ugo Boni, a revered, hardworking and cross-cutting diplomat in Nigeria, again surpassed expectations as he put up a befitting reception which took place on Saturday, 8th June, 2024 at the Green House, Ikoy, in Lagos.

From the occasion’s venue and its cosy ambience adorned with Italia colours and souvenirs, the greeters and their courtesies, gifts display, commendable security provision, To the arrays of eminent visitors from all walks of society and careers, exquisite  Italian foods & drinks available, and the elation in the air, one can attest to the fact that Consul General Boni is a man of qualitative and productive associations, a disposition that continues to increase Italy’s visibility in Nigeria, bringing alongside deserving recognitions and rewards.

Youthful-looking and smartly dressed Mr. Boni, his beautiful wife Mrs. Gulzhanat Kaiyrbekova and other resplendently Consulate General officers were on ground to properly welcome their guests to the evening get-together, which started with the singing of national anthems of both countries. This was followed by the opening speech ‘of the Italian Foreign Minister, Mr. Antonio Tajani, who thanked all for coming to celebrate with his country’s on its National Day and assures of Italy continued commitments of global improvements.

Mr. Ugo Boni and his team were also glad at the event’s outcome and the visitors’ happiness and comfort as they trooped in to celebrate with them on this memorable occasion, the second since his arrival as the Consul General in Nigeria. During his remarks, he deeply appreciated the guests for the honour accorded his country and the cooperation and support the mission has enjoyed so far, while also using the opportunity to highlight the various accomplishments of the Consulate General under his headship, reaffirming his duties and devotions to promoting Italy-Nigeria Bilateral Ties.

He specially thanked Zenith Bank Plc and its CEO, Mrs. Adaora Umeoji, Mr, Olaseinde  Olusola of Seinde Signature, Green House, Royal Caribbean International, and a host of others for their sponsorships and unwavering supports, and for making the event a huge success, a delightsome and come back again reception for everyone.

It was indeed a night of fun, mingling, relaxation and gifts galore for guests. Royal Caribbean added a joyful colouration with its grand prize of 7 nights of Mediterranean Cruise award to the Winner drawn via the raffle draw from the mix of people present. Mr. Sehinde also spiced the night with alluring fragrances as he personally gifted out exotic brands of world class luxury perfumes to lucky guests amidst other souvenirs and giveaway items distributed by the Consulate and Zenith Bank respectively.
