INDIAN NAVY WARSHIP INS TARKASH MISSION DEPLOYED IN GULF OF GUINEA
Reinforcing Indian Navy’s commitment for safety of maritime trade at sea, INS Tarkash
has been mission deployed in the Gulf of Guinea for anti-piracy operations.
In the ongoing Anti-Piracy Patrol in the Gulf of Guinea (GoG), INS Tarkash also
undertook Joint Maritime Exercise with Nigerian Navy from 12-13 Sep 22. The exercise was
conducted 15 Nautical miles off Port Lagos with Nigerian Navy Patrol Ships NNS Kano, NNS
Osun, NNS Sokoto and NNS Nguru. The exercise witnessed high tempo of naval activities and
included various facets of maritime operations like Anti-Piracy operations, Assistance to vessel
in distress, Search and Rescue drills, engagement of surface and aerial targets, communication
drills, tactical manoeuvres and traditional steam-past.
Besides enhancing the inter-operability between the two navies, these structured
maritime exercises honed their skills for maritime interdiction and counter piracy operations.
It also marks the first joint operational deployment by India and Nigeria, in support of Antipiracy operations in the GoG. INS Tarkash would continue the coordinated patrol till 18 Sep
and be deployed in the GoG till end Sep 22
